An oasis in desert!!!
Cataract Hotel is a beautiful hotel, a little outside Cairo center to the road of Giza. I stayed here 5 nights the previous summer.
To tell you the truth I do not like Cairo a lot. Too crowded, too dirty city. But the hotel was an exception. Very clean, very helpful service. The hotel is extended in a large area. It has a lot of rooms and a water pool in the center. In the reception there is a technical waterfall, very scenic.
The breakfast was delicious and very rich. The food, too.
In the hotel area there are some shops and the people there was very hospital. They offered us coffee or tea or anything we want.
In the hotel also exists a place to exchange money.
I really like this hotel and even if I did not like Cairo I found this excursion as a unique experience. Vacation in Cairo deserves for 4 days I think, only to see the main monuments.

Great Resort!!"
This is a great resort that is a welcome refuge from the chaos of downtown Cairo. Situated out of town, but not far, a cab will cost 10Egy pounds from downtown. Pool is great, service excellent. Breakfast was well laid out, cable worked a treat. Bathroom was a bit shabby, but quite frankly I didn't notice this too much. Compared with other hotels in the area, this is a great place, value for money, stay here if you can ! If you want a good cab driver ask for Jamahl on the taxi rank outside to the left of the hotel. He stayed with us all day driving whereever we wanted for about 100-150 egy pounds. He was courteous and ultra reliable. Don't get a taxi from the doorman as he takes 50% comission, you will be paying too much. Go to the taxi rank directly yourself, despite the rantings of the doorman not to do so. Book a room through the internet otherwise you will be paying double over the desk or from an agent. I found good cheaper sites to be Alpharooms and Octopus US :>

I cant believe it is 5 star
Stayed at this hotel for 8 nights,(2 women and a child)The first night when we woke in the morning we found our room completely flooded, Housekeeping immediately cleared the water from the room it was so bad it took about 1 hour. No compensation was offered for the ruined books, trainers that could not be used for days or wet suitcases. We were constantly harrassed by the hotel supervising bell boy to buy overpriced trips, he even wanted to come to our room to discuss our travel arrangements. We could not walk pass him without him asking when we were going to book with him. We did book our trip to the pyramids through him we paid 100 egytian pounds for their driver to take us and were told we not have to pay anything else. We were dropped off and placed on horses and told we would have to pay a further £100 sterling for this, we negotiated it down to £60.00 our driver was not in sight. However we did enjoy this but it was not what the hotel lead us to believe would happen. After this experience we found ourselves a very good taxi driver call Asiff who took as everywhere we wanted to go (he is stationed just to the left of the hotel) we paid him what we felt was reasonable and he was always pleased and happy with what we gave him. He really looked after us. However the doorman no longer spoke to us as he was not getting his commission for arranging the taxi. We found there was no entertainment, they could not even provide a ball for the child to use in the pool. We went to play tennis and could not use the courts because they were going to have a 5 aside football comp, they being the staff. there was no table tennis or darts or garden chess all as advertised. I thought I would treat myself to a pedicure, manicure and a hairdo - no staff available to do this for the whole week. All the restaurants had the same menu, the service around the pool was so slow, it would not be unusual to wait 20 minutes for a drink. The rooms are clean but quite shabby the childs bed was a wooden board with a very thin mattress, a sun bed would have been more comfortable.
On the positive side the pool was very clean. I have stayed in many hotels but how this one has a 5 star rating I will never know.
